The Web Of Lies IV: Why It Matters
UPDATE: Some outlets are starting to admit they messed up.
UPDATE: Linked at The Jawa Report
The reason chasing down Quote Truthers is important, is because they use these lies to push an agenda. It’s usually done in discussion forums to shut someone up they don’t like, but it spreads into blogs, articles, books, and even on television.
Right now, this phony Rush Limbaugh quote:
“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray. We miss you, James. Godspeed.”
Is being used all over the place to attack conservatism, attack critics of Sonia Sotomayor, discredit Rush and present the Republican Party as racist. The quote is old, so some dismiss this as old news, but it cannot stand and it must be shot down in the present time. This quote spearheads a list of phony, questionable and exaggerated quotes that are being shoved into peoples faces and pasted into emails and it is shaping the public perception of the right. It’s despicable, but if we don’t do anything about it, we deserve it. Here is a step by step guide with the evidence that this quote is bogus, followed by the Quote Truthers who still use it, despite being told it was false. In fact, as of this writing, it is listed as ‘disputed’ in wikiquote.
One of the first posts on the ‘net to use this phony quote from wikiquote. The false quote is highlighted in red in the picture below.
Note the date of 4/23/98, the day James Earl Ray died.

This is the post that exposed the lie. I highlighted where the dates where changed to make the phony quote look more authentic. There is a screenshot below as well.

This next one is the wikiquote page that shows the edits of the quote. The quote was originally dated 2/21/03. Then, the user changes it to 4/23/98, so it looks better, as if Rush eulogized Ray with the fraudulent quote. On top of that, the liar has another fake Limbaugh quote using the same date! This other phony quote was from Mein Kempf. Pic below:
Here is a shot of James Earl Ray’s wikipedia entry, with the date he died:
__
Here is another phony quote by the same user, this is the ‘slavery’ quote that has been flying around.
“I mean, let’s face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark”
It is also one of this guy’s fabrications:
___
Now for the creative re-write of Hitler. He took a passage from Mein Kempf and replaced the slur kike with African-American.
“Was there any excrement, any shamelessness in any form, above all in cultural life, in which at least one African-American would not have been involved? As soon as one even carefully cut into such an abscess, one found, like maggots in a decaying body, often blinded by the sudden light, an African-American.”

…and here’s the side by side with Hitler’s writing:
So you can see that these unsourced ‘quotes’ floating around are mostly a bunch of garbage. So many of the left are still using these, and other phony quotes to indoctrinate our fellow Americans.
Professor David Michael Green claims to have remembered the James Earl Ray/Medal fantasy. He is teaching American kids and filling their heads with these lies.
So is professor Randall Amster. Once again, it is important to challenge these falsehoods, as they are race card playing at it’s worst. Totally invented slanders to protect the left from defending their indefensible ideas.
Casey Gane-McCalla - He pushes around the main top ten list that makes it onto the forums.
Desi Cortez – Wrote an article in an athletics publication. He was one of the few who emailed me back, yet he still persists in standing by these lies. He signs his article off with:
That’s straight, with no chaser – from Desi Cortez.
That’s straight BS is what it is.
Liberal Radio – Has the fraudulent quotes up as well. A liberal radio network should know better.
Other Quote Truthers:
Infidel753 – Someone else gave him the Smash Mouth Politics link, yet he continues to cling to this article of faith.
My Barack Obama.com – The Obamites love their faith in racist Americans. They research quotes like they research candidates for President. Move down that guy’s page and view the Quote Truther in his natural habitat.
Davey D’s Daily Hip Hop News – How many kids and young people are going to take this as gospel?
Max Blumenthal on the Daily Beast – He used the quote in his race card playing piece on Michael Steele & the GOP.
There should be retractions all over the place.
It is the big lie techniqe in action.
And we aren’t doing anything about it. See the big lie at 1:26
Once again, this fraud is trotted out to deflect criticism of Sotomayor.
Here are the two biggest offenders, linked in all their Google glory. Click one, and go challenge this fraud, you might even see I was already there.
“You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray. We miss you, James. Godspeed.”
