The is now fully engaged in defending David Letterman. Not because he is a fantastic water boy for them, but because they can avoid the subject of Obama’s lackluster performance.

For instance, Alan Colmes engaged in some un-Colmeslike dishonesty by smearing Jay Leno with Daivd Lettermanism:

• “Gov. Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it.” — “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.”

• This is not much different than the Letterman joke about which the right wing is going crazy:

• “One awkward moment for Sarah Palin at the Yankee game,” Letterman said, “during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.” -David Letterman

Yeah Alan, those are similar, except for the part where Dave attacks a little girl. Jay is also picking on John Edwards, something you liberals were a little slow to pick up, but if you want to bring that episode up again, I am sure the right blogosphere is game. Too bad Alan perpetrated this near lie, he must be trying for some liberal street cred now that he’s out from under Sean.

So this is how Democrat victory looks folks. They win, and still send their ‘entertainment’ attack dogs against Palin, Limbaugh, Beck, anybody they fear. You can tell what is working, by how hard liberals attack it. They are that easy to read.

In January, Obama decreed: “You can’t just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.” Well, yes we can. Rush thanks you for the ratings surge as well. After realizing they made Rush the focus and giving him the attention they don’t want him to have, the liberals went to Glenn Beck. Too bad Beck shoved it up their butt, even while he was crying. After making fun of Beck, an American who loves America and isn’t embarrassed by it, they moved on to former Vice President Dick Cheney. Cheney gave a blistering critique of Obama’s policy decisions, and the left attacked Cheney with fervor, trotting out Sy Hersh to claim Cheney had spies in the government. Some liberals even claimed Cheney was trying to suppress a video of American troops sodomizing young Muslim boys. What was all that about inflammatory hate-talk? There are lies, damned lies, and then there’s a Seymour Hersh speech:

• The rape of Iraqi boys by US military personnel is corroborated by other evidence. Journalist Seymour Hersh, who played a critical role in breaking the Abu Ghraib story in 2004, has evidently seen all of the photos, and is aware of video footage depicting rape. He has not written publicly on their content, but a 2004 speech he gave to the ACLU indicates the sheer horror of the US military’s methods:
• “Some of the worst things that happened you don’t know about, okay?” Hersh said. “The women were passing messages out saying, ‘Please come and kill me, because of what’s happened,’ and basically what happened is that those women who were arrested with young boys, children in cases that have been recorded. The boys were sodomized with the cameras rolling. And the worst, above all, of that is the soundtrack of the boys shrieking that your government has. They are in total terror. It’s going to come out.” In another speech, quoted by Rick Pearlstein, Hersh spoke of “horrible things done to children of women prisoners, as the cameras run.”

Any journalists ready to call out this weasel out for his slander? If Glenn Beck stirs up right wing yahoos, how many people have been killed by Muslims who read Hersh’s lying words?

Once the Cheney assault failed, the left drifted back to the Limbaugh-is-our-Emperor canard, until David Letterman struck ratings gold. Once Letterman assailed the sexual virtue of a 14 year-old-girl, her mommy came to her defence and the left attacked her for being a publicity hound. In this case, I think Letterman made an honest mistake about which daughter was there, but he refuses to man up, dug in, and the left dug in with him. Letterman is siphoning ratings off of Conan, the left is attacking Sarah Palin for defending her family, and Barack Obama gets to fail quietly in the background. That’s all they want.
